Do you have plants in your home? I am speaking of live plants: plastic or permanent flowers are just not the same.
Plants can become a really fascinating hobby and decoration for your home. If you spend lots of time caring for them and loving them then you'll spend additional time being proud.
Remember, if your plants are not happy, they won't flourish. They are just like pets and require care: they are dependent on you for water, food and protection again pests. If you keep them healthy they will repay you by being healthy and beautiful.
Before you have house plants try to decide the location of each as light is very important in caring for them. Some plants that flower such as geraniums will need full sun.
Before purchasing each plant read information on their care of perhaps ask recommendations from your local plant nursery or friends who are growing indoor plants.
There are some foliage plants that can be raised without much sun, such as ferns, palms, philodendron and rubber plants. You might place the ones requiring the most sun in a certain area and the others in rooms that don't see a lot of light.
Water is essential to house plants but you can also overwater and this is the main reason for plant loss in the home. The amount of water you will be giving your plant will depend on its size, the variety of plant, the size of the container it is planted in and also the humidity in the room. I always water thoroughly, not just a little at a time and usally about once a week depending on the plant. I water till the plant is soaked then I don't water again until I feel the plant is dry. There are gauges for dryness that you can buy also to determine the need for water.
I also put pebbles in my pots for air circulation and I don't allow water to stand in outer containers.
Now for the subject of feeding house plants: some of the newer soils come with food for six months in the soil, others don't. You will need a good balanced plant food, check the lables and directions on products before buying.
Some leaves need to be cleaned such as shiny-leafed foliage as they do love to look fresh. Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth at least three times a week.
As for pests I would consult my local plant nursery for advice on the best product to use to rid your plants of these pesky insects.
